GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Mould is not only unsightly, but is responsible for the dissemination of airborne spores that can possibly cause asthma in some children and respiratory allergies and disease in people they infect. They are particularly dangerous to people with serious lung problems such as cystic fibrosis. Fungi can cause serious damage in property resulting in critical losses of health, yield, quality, and profit. MUR-TU® Fungicidal Wash is a biocidal chemical compound or biological organism used to kill parasitic fungi or their spores.

MUR-TU® Fungicidal Wash has been specially developed for use prior to painting. It kills and prevents the reappearance of unsightly growths of mould, algae, fungi, moss, etc. which can cause paint to peel off or leave bad black surfaces which are not aesthetically acceptable. The solution is also effective in removing algal contamination from paths and other surfaces.

  • Chlorine free biocide for neutralising active mould, fungal and bacterial growths and spores;

  • Can be applied to damp surfaces;

  • Water based, therefore all equipment can be cleaned with water.

STANDARD APPLICATION PROCEDURE - MOULD GROWTH

  1. Apply to all mould infected and suspected areas liberal wash of MUR-TU® Fungicidal Wash;

  2. Allow to remain on the surface for a period of not less than 4 hours then scrape off all mould and loose material, remove from the building and burn immediately;

  3. Apply a further wash of the solution and let it remain on the surface for a minimum of 72 hours for complete sterilization;

  4. Wash off the solution. Make good any defects in the surface before re-painting.

STANDARD APPLICATION PROCEDURE - ALGAE

  1. Algae attack on exterior surfaces should be treated as described above;

  2. However, if treated in the early stages, it is sometimes possible to completely remove the stains, after sterilising, using stiff fibre brushes, without the need for repainting;

  3. To prevent further contamination it is important to remember that algae, moss and other contamination present on the top of walls, flat roofs, canopies and other flat surfaces, should be removed even though these surfaces are not to be painted;

  4. Such contamination is harmful and will encourage growth spread as rainwater runs off the flat surface, down the wall elevation.

REPAINTING

  1. After thorough treatment of the surface, the affected areas should be primed and painted in accordance with the recommendations given for the various surfaces;

  2. In buildings conducive to mould formation the use of special fungicidal quality materials are recommended;

  3. When decorating walls in kitchens and bathrooms and other areas where steam is likely to condense is, the use special fungicidal quality materials must be considered.

IMPORTANT

  • The ambient temperature must be between 4ºC and 30ºC and humidity between 10% and 65%;

  • Do not paint too early as the wall may still be damp - paint only when the walls are dry;

  • Do not paint in too hot weather, rather paint early morning and after lunch, the slower the MUR-TU® FUNGICIDAL WASH® dries, the better the results;

  • Avoid applying under adverse weather conditions as this could result in poor product performance.

SAFETY

Disinfecting is a relatively user-friendly activity if the proper precautions are taken to ensure safety.

  • It is advisable to wear gloves as skin irritation could occur with prolonged exposure;

  • Always keep out of reach of children and animals;

  • Do not take in orally - harmful if swallowed. Seek medical attention and do not induce vomiting;

  • If accidental contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water or a good quality skin cleaner;

  • If accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice;

  • Wear a respirator if the area being treated cannot be adequately ventilated, and work for short periods only;

  • Ventilate the area to be treated, opening all doors and windows and using fans during application and drying;

  • Choose an area inaccessible to children and pets, and when they are thoroughly dry, take them to a toxic-waste dump site.
